With snow fields, national parks, rainforests, lakes and beaches just some of the natural wonders on offer, it’s no wonder the region’s popularity has surged in recent years.

Tourism numbers are on the rise and the opportunities for farming, investment and lifestyle pursuits are endless. Destination Gippsland chief executive officer Terry Robinson said the region attracted a large number of international visitors as well as interstate and Victorian travellers.

It’s one of the few regions in Victoria where you could be in the snow at Mt Baw Baw in the morning and you could be on the beach at Inverloch in the afternoon,” Terry said.

Tourism has grown in the last year by 15 percent.” This growth has also led to Gippsland emerging as a great place to invest. King and Heath First National Paynesville real estate agent Joan Carter said Gippsland was presenting more than ever as a more affordable place to enjoy a waterfront lifestyle.

She said many people wanted to retire or enjoy holiday homes on the Lakes.

“I think people now are starting to realise that we’re three hours from Melbourne and we’ve got the biggest inland lakes system in the Southern Hemisphere,” Joan said. Metung and Lakes Entrance also offered excellent investment opportunities while Bairnsdale was a good place to buy, too, said Joan
