Home owners are holding on to properties in Maroondah in the face of higher prices in inner-city suburbs.
Latest figures show the average house in Maroondah is held for 11 years, making it one of the top 20 local government areas in the country for longest hold periods.
The trend was confirmed by real estate agents, who said residents were keen to settle in Maroondah for quality of life.
Ringwood First National sales manager Brett Freeman said local schools, shopping centres and highways were a drawcard. “A lot of people move to the area because of the infrastructure,” Mr Freeman said.\
He said EastLink had opened up the eastern suburbs, meaning the commute to the city was not as tortuous.
“People love living out here,” Mr Gibb said.
Mr Freeman said house sales had done well in the past few months, reflecting competitive prices in the area.
