The attractive middle ground

Halfway between Geelong and Werribee, Lara is set for another real estate boom, according to a local agent.

Industry statistics show the median house price in Lara was $345,000, with 204 homes sold in the town in the 12 months to February.

Carey First National agent Sarah Carey said the area had caught the eye of Melbourne buyers seeking a rural change of pace.

“We’re also getting a lot of people from Geelong, the Surf Coast and Bannockhurn trying to get closer to Melbourne,” Ms Carey said.

“I sell a lot of townhouses and units to first-home buyers.” She said acreage properties, starting from $480,000, were popular with Melbourne buyers.

“Our one and five acreages are selling really well, it’s always consistent, especially with families while the smaller properties are allracting a lot of professional couples and singles,” Ms Carey said.

“Because we are so close to Melbourne, I predict we will see another boom in Lara.”
